Krav Maga Class Structure Boston

Class Structure If you are a beginner or new to Krav Maga you may like to take a look at our beginners Krav Maga program/classes to get an idea of the specific format of these classes. To see details please click here.

Our classes tend to take cover the following areas:

Krav Maga Haganah Atzmit - (Self Defense)

Self defense or self-protection training looks at common scenarios, threats and attacks that individuals are likely to face. These might involve multiple attackers, armed assailants or even aggressive individuals that you know and like but still need to be dealt with. Our philosophy in training is to give you simple and effective solutions that can be adapted according to the exact nature of the situation.

Hisardut Karka / Leheema (Ground Fighting/Ground Survival)

There is always the distinct possibility of a fight going to ground, either because you slip/fall, your aggressor does or because they try and take you to ground. In reality the ground is not a place where you wish to be; three of the assumptions we always work with our: 1) the attacker is not alone, 2) they are armed and 3) they are as competent as you are. The ground is not a place where you want to be dealing with multiple attackers (who may be armed).

Our groundwork concentrates on movement and getting back to your feet. Chokes, strangles and joint breaks are taught but the focus is always to return to standing.

Eegroof Krav Maga (Striking) & Tirgul Lekheemah Krav Maga (Sparring)

In most violent confrontations the majority of assaults involve striking and from a defensive perspective being able to strike back efficiently is probably the number one skill to possess. Our striking is conducted both closed and open handed and we involve the use of all limbs including the head.

We practice various forms of “sparring” that attempt to realistically mimic the nature of a real-life confrontation as opposed to a ring fight. In reality aggressors don’t fight they assault and this is what you need to be prepared to defend against.

Imun al basis tarhish/Meevhanei Ma'amatz (Scenario Based Training & Extreme Stress Testing)

Violence never happens in an emotional vacuum and learning how to operate when placed under stress and high emotion is a very necessary way to develop effective fighting skills/abilities. By educating your decision making process whilst under high emotion you will learn to both choose effective solutions and choose them quickly.

Beginning Krav Maga in Boston

We have one simple aim and that is to get you prepared to deal with aggression and violence in the shortest possible time. This means equipping you with basic movement skills, a few simple techniques and the head knowledge needed to understand the situation(s) you are dealing with (along with the appropriate decision making abilities). We call the classes that cover these “Krav Maga Fundamentals” because in these lessons you will learn the fundamental things that will underpin and act as the foundation for everything else you will learn. These are the skills that allow everything else to work. We do not hold back on the material in these classes, you will still learn how to deal with knives and guns (short barreled) but will do so in simple settings and scenarios so you can get used to all the components and dynamics that are present when weapons are involved.

All our classes start with a 5 minute warm-up, this is to give you a chance to get both physically and mentally prepared (sometimes it is hard to switch off from the day’s events and so this period gives you the chance to get your mind focused). We then move into “fighting games”, these are low impact, touch contact drills that allow you to develop basic skills such as control of range and efficient movement. We also make sure in this phase that everyone gets the chance to train with everyone else; when you switch partners you are expected to shake hands and introduce yourself, this way everyone in the class gets to know you.

Once you are fully warmed up, we then do a series of “Preparatory Stretching” before moving into the teaching/learning phase. Initially we re-cap the techniques that were learnt in the previous classes before introducing a new one. Every student is given a card with the material they need to cover for their first grading and this is presented to the instructor at the start of the class, so they are able to see what has been covered and what has not – after the teaching phase, the instructor signs the card by the technique that was practiced in this particular session.

The last part of the class is taken up with a padwork session, where you are taught to strike correctly and efficiently on kick shields, hook and jab pads, Muay Thai pads etc. This is also a great cardio workout and if you’re looking to shed a few pounds and/or get fit this will certainly help you on your way.

There are also “mixed classes” available for you to train in. This gives you the chance to train with students who have been at the Academy a little longer and see some of the material from other levels within the syllabus.

Private Krav Maga Lessons in Boston

Gershon Ben Keren does offer private tuition in Krav Maga. Private Tuition normally suits those individuals whose time constraints prevent them taking regular classes or individuals who have specific needs or goals they want addressed. Despite what many instructors say to the contrary, Gershon's view is that students progress faster in a class where they have the oportunity to practice techniques against different people of different sizes and builds. many instructors will try and present the picture that one private lesson is worth 10 class lessons etc, this really is only propogating the old martial arts myth that there are certain "secret techniques" etc that an instructor will only reveal in private. This is a martial arts money making fallacy.

If your time is constrained or you do have particular goals you want to reach that you feel may not get the focus they deserve in a class setting please feel free to contact us about private krav maga lessons by clicking here.

Testimonials About Krav Maga in Boston I can honestly say that I've never had a higher standard of instruction in my life. That includes anywhere in the military including instructors from special forces. There aren’t many people you come across in your life who you can genuinely call a teacher and you are one of them. Not just technical skill or even experience in the street, as many people have that but a deep understanding of why things work and more importantly why things don't. Krav Maga Boston DVD's & Movies I've learned some valuable and practical principles of self defense, and my cardio and flexibility have greatly improved. A further bonus is th at my weight has dropped by almost 30 lbs during those six months – about one lb per week – back to what it was in college.
