Frequently Asked Questions About Krav Maga

How Long Will It Take Me to Get Good At “Krav Maga”?

Krav Maga itself is a very basic system, designed to get people to handle a lot of situations very quickly. Originally it was designed as a self-defense system rather than as a fighting system; what this means is that it teaches quick defenses along with immediate disengagement. This is why it was ideally suited for training soldiers in non-specialized infantry units who had little time in their training programs to spare for actual hand-to-hand combat.

Our program is far more comprehensive than the majority of Krav Maga programs as taught outside of Israel. Our aim is to build an individual’s fighting skills e.g. balance, stability and effective movement etc so that you can survive all manner of real-life violent situations. To do this our Krav Maga program encompasses many elements and components that are taught to more specialized soldiers etc within the IDF.

The first 6 months of our program is dedicated to getting you able to defend yourself in the shortest possible time against the most common and realistic street attacks e.g. we don’t spend a lot of time dealing with unrealistic attacks such as static chokes etc. The first two belts/levels concern themselves with this. At the same time we start to develop the actual skills, like range control, generation of power etc that enable people to become truly comprehensive fighters.

What Clothing/Equipment Do I Have To Wear?

When you first come and train with us, we suggest you wear loose fitting training clothes. We are a fully matted gym and so we request that you train barefoot or that you wear dedicated mat shoes e.g. wrestling boots, martial arts shoes etc. When you join the center/academy you will be given the academy/center uniform to wear. If you wish to spar you will need to purchase sparring equipment however this type of training isn’t introduced until later levels/belts.

Will I Get Hurt Practicing Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a combat system and there is always the chance of some pain/discomfort and the possibility of injury. However we don't use pain as a teaching tool and we do as much as is physically possible to avoid training in such a way.

Testimonials About Krav Maga in Boston I can honestly say that I've never had a higher standard of instruction in my life. That includes anywhere in the military including instructors from special forces. There aren’t many people you come across in your life who you can genuinely call a teacher and you are one of them. Not just technical skill or even experience in the street, as many people have that but a deep understanding of why things work and more importantly why things don't. Krav Maga Boston DVD's & Movies I've learned some valuable and practical principles of self defense, and my cardio and flexibility have greatly improved. A further bonus is th at my weight has dropped by almost 30 lbs during those six months – about one lb per week – back to what it was in college.
